Safari Four Knot Bracelet in Gold

Our Safari Four Knot bracelets are our homage to the traditional elephant hair bracelets from Southern Africa.  These adjustable bracelets have 4 strands of 1.5 mm 9 karat gold-filled sterling silver wire and four knots with a Norton + Hodges plus sign.   Choose between silver or gold filled knots or plus signs. Over the course of two full days, each bracelet is handcrafted in South Africa by a women-owned jewelry design company.

The bracelet itself has four knots and lines running through all of them. The knots are symbols of the power of nature in sun, fire, wind and water.  The lines running between and connecting the knots remind us of the continuous circle of life and how there are threads that connect us all to each other and to nature.  We added the “plus” sign from the Norton and Hodges logo to remind us that we should always look to “add unto” and not only take.  Add to the love around you. Add to the beauty around you. Add to someone’s life around you.

According to legend, the bracelets started long, long ago when herdsmen would see the elephant hair hanging on thorn bushes or on the ground after elephants had made their way through an area. They would weave them, using the skills passed down from their forefathers, and make beautiful 2 knot and 4 knot bracelets to pass the time.  Today, due to the alarming rate of elephant poaching, we no longer use elephant tail hair, we use silver and gold wire.

The bracelets are adjustable and available in 4 sizes.  They can be washed in hot water and dish soap, or a silver cloth can be used.

Materials used: 9 ct gold fill over sterling silver.

Although we only guarantee the bracelets for 5 years, many of our bracelets last for much longer.  Proper care of the bracelets is a must. Plated knots and plus signs are guaranteed for Wear and Tear for up to 24 months but can be replated at cost.

Small- for petite wrists and teenagers

Medium- 85% of buyers will wear a medium

Large-  If you have large hands or wrists, this size will be best for you
